The food we eat leaves a footprint in the country it’s produced, on it’s way to the processing plant and/or shop, during preparation and, in case of food waste, after disposal. Producing food requires land and energy, with meat and dairy products using the most. Here is a list of actions that will reduce your food footprint:

  • Eat less meat, starting with one day a week (or more if you like)
  • Choose sustainably produced fish and seafood
  • Avoid food waste by cooking smaller portions or freezing leftovers
  • Compost food scraps
  • Buy fresh produce and minimally packaged food
  • Buy organic, fairtrade and/or local
  • Buy imperfect veg and fruit
  • Ask where the meat and fish is coming from when eating out
  • Take your own bag when you go shopping
  • Use a refillable water bottle and coffee cup
