When do you give up chasing a dream, or should you never give up?
I’ve been asking myself these questions recently as I’ve been chasing my dream of publishing a book, but so far I haven’t been successful.
Writing a book has been a dream of mine since I was a child. I remember writing stories about a little piglet with my sister. When I was at university I started working on a book in my spare time and it’s gone through several iterations since then.
Last year, I sent a book proposal to agents and received mixed feedback. At the end, it wasn’t quite right, not different or unique enough. So what now, should I give up or try it again?
I think I’m not ready to give up. I have more ideas, but most importantly, I enjoy being creative and writing. Even if my dream should never come true, at least I’ve tried it and enjoyed myself along the way.
I’ve asked myself these questions before when I was unemployed, but again, I wasn’t willing at the time to give up pursuing a job in the environmental sector. It was a difficult journey, but I made it – at least for now.
Shortly after I received the offer, I read a quote from Winston Churchill written on the wall at a club I went to with friends during my hen do (what a strange place to see it). The quote spoke from my heart and read: “Never, never, never give up.”
